Chicago Splits a Point in 0-0 Draw Against Seattle

CHICAGO – The Red Stars come away with a point after battling to a scoreless draw in Seattle.

Just 10 minutes in, Chicago’s pressure proved powerful after getting the first shot on goal off a corner kick header by Julie Ertz. The ball just fell to a diving Lydia Williams to keep the game equal early on.

In what became an equally matched first half, the Red Stars and the Reign were stuck with a scoreless scoreline heading into halftime. Chicago managed to put two of its eight shots on frame, while Seattle only saw two shots in the half.

The Red Stars continued its pressure into the second half, earning another shot on goal as Vanessa DiBernardo dribbled toward the end line in the box, crossing it to a wide-open Kerr. Kerr’s one-touch shot was struck straight toward Williams for a perfect save.

Seattle was finally able to get a shot off as a bouncing ball was crossed back to Jess Fishlock, who took a touch and struck it toward goal. As Alyssa Naeher dove for the save, the ball deflected off the near post and out for a corner kick.

Despite an additional eight minutes of stoppage time in the second half, neither Chicago nor Seattle were able to come away with the victory, settling for a 0-0 draw.

After Seattle, the Red Stars will head straight to Portland to take on the Thorns this Saturday, August 18. The match will be NWSL’s Game of the Week and will be broadcast live on ESPNews at 9:30 p.m. CT.
