CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars announced today that the team has received a first-round draft pick in the 2015 National Women’s Soccer League College Draft, as well as an international roster spot from FC Kansas City, in exchange for defender Amy LePeilbet.
LePeilbet, a 31-year-old, Crystal Lake, Illinois native, was allocated to the Chicago Red Stars in 2012. After ACL surgery in February 2013, LePeilbet chose to undergo rehab outside of Chicago and never appeared with the team.
LePeilbet earned her first cap with the U.S. WNT in January 2004, and helped anchor the team’s defensive line in its gold medal victory in the 2012 Olympic games. In 2009 and 2010, as a member of the Boston Breakers, LePeilbet was named Women’s Professional Soccer’s (WPS) Defender of the Year.
The Chicago Red Stars kick off their 2014 season with a Toyota Park doubleheader on April 19 against Abby Wambach and Western NY Flash at 5pm CT. The team then returns to their home stadium, the Village of Lisle Benedictine Sports Complex on April 26. Tickets for all Red Stars home matches can be purchased on https://chicagoredstars.com or by calling 773.697.8699.
