Chicago Red Stars Take Down Kansas City Current 4-0

The Chicago Red Stars served the Kansas City Current their first loss in 13 games with a 4-0 win at SeatGeek Stadium. Chicago’s Tatumn Milazzo and Mallory Pugh both scored in the first nine minutes of the game to give the Red Stars an early lead, followed by goals from Pugh again and Amanda Kowalski in the second half. The Red Stars gained three points, putting them ahead of OL Reign in the fifth spot in the NWSL rankings.

  • Mallory Pugh’s two goals against the Current put her at 10 goals in the NWSL regular season. She is fourth in the league for goals scored, behind San Diego’s Alex Morgan (15), North Carolina’s Diana Ordoñez (11), and Portland’s Sophia Smith (11).

  • The Red Stars ended Kansas City’s 13-game unbeaten streak, which has extended since the end of May. This also was the end of a five-game win streak on the road for the Current, and was a much needed three points for the Red Stars as the regular season enters the final stretch.

  • Rachel Hill made her 100th NWSL appearance, once again making a strong impact for the Red Stars. She ranked in the top five Red Stars in shots, chances created, crosses attempted and touches.
