CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars announced today that forward Christen Press and defender Julie Johnston were named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for a three-game stretch of international friendly matches against Canada on Jan. 31 and Russia on Feb. 8 and Feb. 12.
Johnston, who was recently acquired by the Red Stars as the #3 overall selection in the 2014 NWSL College Draft, has 2 caps with the U.S. Women’s National Team, and was named U.S Young Female Athlete of the Year in 2012. The U.S. roster also includes Red Stars forward Christen Press. Press, a member of U.S. Women’s National Team since April of 2012, became just the fifth Women’s National Team player to score at least four goals in her first four matches with the full squad. Press is currently with Tyresö FF in the Swedish Damallsvenskan league, where she became the first ever American to win the Golden Boot, leading the league in scoring.
The USA will play its first match of year on Jan. 31 against Canada at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (8 p.m. CT on FOX Sports 1). The team then travels to Florida to face Russia on Feb. 8 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton (2:30 p.m. CT on ussoccer.com web stream), followed by a quick trip to Atlanta to play Russia again on Feb. 12 at the Georgia Dome (6:30 p.m. CT on ussoccer.com web stream).
