CHICAGO – The Red Stars end its three-game home series on Sunday, July 1, when they take on the Washington Spirit. The match will kick off at 5 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on the NWSL app and the go90 app.

Chicago is coming off a three-game undefeated streak, recently defeating Utah Royals FC 2-0. After a scoreless first half, defender Katie Naughton gave the Red Stars the lead with her first career goal. Less than 10 minutes later, Vanessa DiBernardo scored in just her second match of the season.

Washington is coming off a 0-1 loss to Orlando Pride as Alanna Kennedy’s half-field shot was the game’s difference. The Spirit have been scoreless in their last four matches, only tallying 10 goals this season.

The Spirit have been through several injuries this season, including U.S. Women’s National Team forward Mallory Pugh, who has been out the last four matches due to a knee injury. Midfielder Rose Lavelle has been in and out of the team this year, not earning any time in the loss to Orlando.

This will be the final match of the three-game series between the two teams. The first match saw a 1-1 draw on the road in Maryland, while the last match was awarding for the Red Stars.

Chicago shutout the Spirit 2-0, as goalkeeper and 2018 NWSL College Draft pick Emily Boyd earned her professional debut and shutout. Sam Kerr notched the opening goal in the first half to send the Red Stars up at halftime. Minutes into the second half, Yuki Nagasato extended Chicago’s lead her first goal of the season to finish the scoreline.

The Red Stars will be back on the road for two back-to-back games, starting on Wednesday, July 4, in North Carolina to take on the Courage, and on Saturday, July 7, in New Jersey to face Sky Blue FC.
