Chicago Adds Seventh Player in W-League

CHICAGO – Chicago Red Stars defender Arin (Gilliland) Wright has signed on loan with Newcastle Jets in Australia’s W-League for the third year in a row.

Wright first joined Newcastle after the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season ended. Her and former teammate Jen Hoy aided the Jets’ attack, as Wright finished the season with the second-most goals on the team with four.

The Red Stars defender rejoined the Jets the next season, propelling her team to a third-place finish and a playoff run. Wright tallied six goals, second-most on the team behind fellow American Katie Stengel (10), including one in the Semifinal and a hat trick during the regular season.

Currently, Newcastle is in fourth place with six points (2-1-0). Wright could see her first bit of action in Round 5 when the Jets face Red Stars forward Yuki Nagasato and Brisbane Roar.
