CHICAGO – Ahead of the National Women’s Soccer League roster freeze, the Chicago Red Stars have named defender Christina Murillo and midfielder Erin Yenney to the final roster and have signed full contracts ahead of the last six matches for the club.
While playing with the Red Stars Reserves in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), Yenney was called in to the full team prior to receiving a contract, appearing in two matches for a total of 23 minutes. She had previously replaced forward Sam Kerr while the Australian international was with her national team during 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying.
This is the first full-team call up for Murillo, who has spent most of her time with the Red Stars Reserves. The Michigan graduate is also a regular with Mexico’s national team, scoring one goal in 36 matches for her country. Recently, Murillo played with Mexico in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, playing every match on the backline to help Mexico win the tournament.
The Red Stars are back in action on Friday, August 10, hosting the North Carolina Courage. The match will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on the NWSL app and NWSLsoccer.com for both domestic and international fans. Tickets are available here.
