Ertz, Davidson Naeher, Brian, and Short among roster available for the tournament
CHICAGO (June 22, 2020) — Chicago Red Stars head coach Rory Dames has named the 28-player tournament roster for the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, presented by P&G and Secret.
“I am excited about the players we have representing Chicago in the upcoming tournament,” Red Stars head coach Rory Dames said. “We have a great combination of seasoned players familiar with the grind combined with younger players that have great potential. We are ready to take the field and make our supporters and our city proud.”
United States Women’s National Team players Morgan Brian, Tierna Davidson, Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher, and Casey Short are part of the tournament roster. Brian, Davidson, Ertz, and Naeher were part of the U.S. WNT squad that won the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Short had a banner year with Chicago in 2019, becoming the first player ever to be featured on every Team of the Month squad throughout the entire NWSL season.
The Red Stars also announced the signing of goalkeeper Cassie Miller. A First-Team All-American at Florida State, Miller began her professional career in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven in 2018 before making the move to Cyprus to play with Apollon Ladies FC last year.
“I am humbled and excited for the opportunity ahead of me,” Miller said. “I hope to bring the experience I gained abroad back home to the U.S. I look forward to the Challenge Cup and am eager to continue training with the best, working hard, and learning week in and week out from an elite organization.”
Chicago has also signed forward Sarah Luebbert and defender Zoe Morse. Luebbert earned First-Team All-SEC honors with Missouri as a senior in 2019, leading the Tigers in assists. Morse was a team captain for the University of Virginia and was an All-Region Second Team selection.
All Red Stars matches will be available to watch on CBS All Access and other CBS Sports platforms.
