CHICAGO — The National Women’s Soccer League Team of the Month for August was announced on Thursday, with Chicago defender Casey Short named to the squad.
Short continued to make a great impact offensively for the Red Stars this past month. Against Utah, Short’s cross found a wide-open Sam Kerr, who got the opening goal thanks to Short’s distribution. One week later, Short once again created the scoring chance for Chicago’s opening goal as she linked up with Yuki Nagasato for the game-winning assist in the Red Stars’ 1-0 win over the Washington Spirit. In three consecutive games, Short had at least one key pass.
Short was often the key player defensively as well. In five games, Short took on 60 duels, averaging a team-high 12 duels per game through that time span. Short led the team in interceptions in two consecutive games, with a total of seven interceptions, 11 clearances and 13 tackles in August.
Short continues her outstanding 2019 season, making her fifth consecutive Team of the Month squad. She is the only player in the NWSL to earn a spot in every Team of the Month this season. Short and the Red Stars will return to action this Sunday, September 8th, with a matchup against the Houston Dash at 5pm CT.
