CHICAGO — Chicago returns to the field after two full weeks of bye weekends. No one is more excited to get back on the field at SeatGeek Stadium than the Red Stars players themselves.
Here are the Keys to the Match:
Back from the Break
Did the break come at a good time for Chicago? After back-to-back losses for the Red Stars, the team was allowed a well-deserved break and a chance to regroup.
The last time out against Reign FC, Chicago had secured a big win and had three different goal scorers without the last name Kerr. Casey Short, Yuki Nagasato and Brooke Elby all found the back of the net for the Red Stars. The momentum is ready to switch back to our side and it will come through all eleven players on the field.
The First 15
The Red Stars have scored four goals in the opening 15 minutes of games this season, the most of any team. On the other side, Reign FC have conceded four goals in the opening minutes this season, the most in the league.
From the Back
The most veteran line for Chicago comes on the backline as Casey Short, Arin Wright, Katie Naughton, and Sarah Gorden have a combined 17 seasons (including 2019) between the four of them. They’ll be tasked with slowing down the Reign attack that has seen a push from the return of Jess Fishlock and has not lost since April 28 against Chicago. On top of that, Wright and Short are two of the most known outside backs in the league and are often found getting forward and using their speed and athleticism to help the team attack on the width.
