Three Red Stars Called Up to National Teams

Three Chicago Red Stars will join their national teams for international friendlies in November. Goalkeeper, Alyssa Naeher, and forward, Mallory Pugh, will join the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) for the team’s upcoming camp and friendly matches against Germany, while defender, Bianca St-Georges, joins Canada for the team’s matches against Brazil.

Naeher previously joined the national team earlier this month for the team’s friendlies against England and Spain, though only played against England in a 2-1 loss. In the match against England, Naeher faced 10 shots (2 on goal) had 2 saves and faced one penalty. Following the European friendlies, the two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion has now made 85 appearances with the USWNT. Earlier this year Naeher helped the USWNT win the Concacaf W Championship against Canada, earning the United States a place in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and a place in the 2024 summer Olympics in Paris.

Pugh joins the national team after a breakout season with the Red Stars. The forward scored 11 goals for Chicago, while also assisting on six goals, tying North Carolina’s Carson Pickett for most in the National Women’s Soccer League. Pugh also was part of the USWNT during the Concacaf W Championship, making four starts, scoring one goal and adding two assists. In 2022 with the national team, Pugh has made 13 appearances with 11 starts and scored six goals with 7 assists.

St-Georges also had an impressive season with the Red Stars, which included seeing the young defender return to the international stage with Canada’s national team. St-George played in 15 matches for the Red Stars, starting in 13 while tallying 2 goals and 2 assists for the Chicago side. On the international level, St-Georges played 5 matches with Canada this year, starting in 4 and playing 273 minutes. The defender was part of the Canada team that faced the USWNT in the Concacaf W Championship match and helped the team qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the past, the St-Charles-Borommée native helped Canada’s Under-17 and Under-20 teams win silver in their respective Concacaf tournaments.

Canada will travel to first play Brazil Friday, November 11 at Vila Belmiro, in Santos, and conclude their series Tuesday, November 15 at Química Arena, in São Paulo.

The USA finishes its 2022 schedule against the UEFA Women’s Euro runners-up Thursday, Nov. 10 at DRV PNK Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (7 p.m. ET on FS1) and Sunday, Nov. 13 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. (5 p.m. ET on ESPN).
