The Mexican Women’s National Team is currently ranked 35th in the FIFA World Rankings. Spanish Head Coach Pedro Lopez took the reins during Fall 2022, focusing on reaching the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The team is captained by Real Madrid defender Kenti Robles, Mexico’s longest-serving player. Standouts on the roster include top LIGA MX Femenil scorers like Tigres forward Stephany Mayor, Club America forward Kiana Palacios, and midfielder Scarlett Camberos. Other top players include Houston Dash forwards María Sánchez and Diana Ordóñez from the National Women’s Soccer League.
In September 2022, the Mexican Women’s National Team won the inaugural edition of Copa Angelina, an annual competition played against Angel City FC in Los Angeles. In February of this year, the national team also secured the first edition of the Women’s Revelations Cup tournament championship in Mexico.
Established in 2007, the Chicago Red Stars have been growing women’s soccer for the past 16 years. As a founding member of three professional women’s soccer leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2013, the Red Stars have been home to some of the top players in the world, now including United States Women’s National Team stars, Alyssa Naeher and Mallory Swanson. On the pitch, the Red Stars have been the model for consistency and hard work boasting a record-setting seven consecutive NWSL playoff appearances, including 2019 and 2021 NWSL Championships and the 2020 inaugural NWSL Challenge Cup Championship. Led by General Manager and former Red Star defender Michelle Lomnicki, and Head Coach Chris Petrucelli, the team now enters a new era of Chicago Red Stars soccer with a recommitment to growing the game.
