Chicago Red Stars Tie North Carolina Courage, 1-1

The Chicago Red Stars, in a physical matchup, drew even with the North Carolina Courage, 1-1. Orland Park native and defender, Tatumn Milazzo, provided the Red Stars’ loan goal off of a set piece corner kick delivered by midfielder, Julia Bianchi.  
14’ North Carolina lob a ball over the Red Stars’ back line to find an attacker who gets them on the board first, 1-0 North Carolina Courage 
16’ The Courage try another lob to one of their attackers racing into the 18-yard box, but Chicago’s Arin Wright races over to cover and clears the danger, 1-0 North Carolina  
23’ On a free kick, the Red Stars deliver a ball to North Carolina’s back post that’s headed back to the front post by Kayla Sharples and headed toward goal by Tatumn Milazzo, but their keeper blocks the shot sending it out for a corner 
41’ The Courage’s Kerolin brakes into Chicago’s 18-yard box and takes a shot that goes to the near post, but quick reflexes by Chicago’s Alyssa Naeher helps stop the attack, 1-0 North Carolina 
45+1’ The Courage’s Kerolin goes on another break toward goal, but this time Kayla Sharples sprints over to cover the shot with a well-timed slide tackle 
48’ Chicago’s Ella Stevens receives a pass from Bianca St-Georges at the top of North Carolina’s 18-yard box and takes a shot that goes just wide of the post 
59’ Stevens heads a ball forward for Yuki Nagasato, who sends a shot from distance toward goal that forces the Courage’s keeper to dive and cover the goal, but the ball ultimately goes wide of the goal 
62’ Bianca St-Georges crosses a ball to a wide-open Stevens, who takes a shot on the volley, but the Courage’s keeper pushes it out for a Chicago corner kick 
63’ on the ensuing corner kick, Julia Bianchi serves the ball into the box that finds defender Tatumn Milazzo whose header goes through the keeper’s hands to even the score, 1-1  
84’ After a VAR review, a penalty attempt was awarded to North Carolina for a foul in the 18-yard box. The Courage’s Kerolin steps up to take the attempt but sends it wide, 1-1 
  • Julia Bianchi’s assist to Tatumn Milazzo was the midfielder’s fourth assist from a corner kick, more than any other player in the NWSL 
  • Including the assist to Milazzo, Bianchi had an outstanding performance ranking as the highest Red Star in chances created (4), crosses attempted (10), recoveries (15) and tackles won (3) 
  • As a team the Red Stars took more shots (13) than the Courage (9), with 11 coming from inside the Courage’s 18-yard box. The team also completed more passes in the final third (138 to 69), with a higher passing percentage in the final third (71.7 to 66.7 percent) than the Courage
