The Chicago Red Stars travel back to home empty handed after a 5-2 loss to OL Reign. In addition to making her National Women’s Soccer League debut, rookie Ally Schlegel scored her first professional goal.

13’ OL Reign crosses a ball into Chicago’s 18-yard box that comes dangerously close to crossing the goal line and opening up the score, but Red Stars goalkeeper, Alyssa Naeher, punches the ball away and clears the danger
14’ The Reign cross another on the ground through Chicago’s 18-yard box that passes an OL Reign forward before finding Bethany Balcer who is able to bury it in the back of the net, 1-0 Reign
16’ Chicago earn a corner kick that’s quickly taken and finds the head of Yuki Nagasato, but the veteran is unable to get the header past OL Reign’s keeper
19’ OL Reign cross another ball into Chicago territory, this time from left to right, that finds Balcer again who extends the home team’s lead, 2-0 OL Reign
31’ Ally Schlegel finds Bianca St-Georges on a run up the right wing in OL territory. The winger takes a shot that is deflected by the Reign’s defender, but the ball falls to the feet of Chicago’s Arin Wright who takes a strike and buries the shot to bring Chicago within one goal of tying the match, 2-1 Reign
45+3’ Chicago is unable to clear loose ball from an OL Reign corner kick and are made to pay for it by Jess Fishlock who put the Reign up by two again, 3-1 Reign
46’ The Red Stars put pressure on the Reign’s keeper immediately to start the second half, and are rewarded with a goal by the rookie, Ally Schlegel, to pull a goal back for the Chicago side, 3-2
64’ Chicago’s Ava Cook, who came on for Ella Stevens, gets enough space to take a strike from outside the Reign’s 18-yard box, but their keeper is able to get a hand on the shot and lead it out for a Chicago corner kick
74’ Megan Rapinoe takes a shot at goal from a free kick that defect’s off of Chicago’s Nagasato and past the keeper to extend the Reign’s lead, 4-2

78’ Elyse Bennett for OL Reign goes on a dangerous run, but the Red Stars Tatumn Milazzo times a slide tackle well enough to stop the run and win the ball back for Chicago
