Chicago Red Stars Fall 4-0 to Portland Thorns FC

The visiting Chicago Red Stars fell 4-0 to Portland Thorns FC this afternoon. The club heads back home to Chicago to face off against the Orlando Pride at SeatGeek Stadium Saturday, May 27, at 7:00 p.m. CT.    

 

KEY MOMENTS: 

8’ Portland send a free kick into Chicago’s 18-yard box that finds a Portland striker open and they’re able to find the back of the net to open the scoring, 1-0 Portland 

 

14’ A cross into Chicago’s 18-yard box from Portland finds Crystal Dunn open and she extends the Thorns’ lead, 2-0 Portland 

 

16’ A turnover by Chicago in their defensive third gives Portland another opportunity at goal and they capitalize, 3-0 Portland  

 

18’ Off a corner kick, Portland find the head of one of their attackers, but Alyssa Naeher gets her body in front of the shot and prevents further danger 

 

42’ Portland go on the attack again, this time their forward goes one on one against Naeher who makes the stop and clears the danger 

 

48’ Portland’s cross into Chicago’s box finds an attacker that gets their head on the ball and into Chicago’s net, 4-0 Portland 

 

51’ Portland’s Sophia Smith takes a strike from outside Chicago’s box, but Naeher makes a diving save  

 

65’ Ella Stevens works her magic in Portland’s 18-yard box, controls the ball and finds Bianca St-Georges with a pass in stride who takes a shot that goes off the woodwork  

 

 78’ Portland go on a fast break toward Chicago’s goal, but Tatumn Milazzo turns on the jets to get back on defense and block a shot at goal, 4-0 Portland 

 

82’ Portland pass the ball around in Chicago’s 18-yard box and settle for a shot from outside that Naeher dives to get her hand on to clear the danger 

 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Casey Krueger showed her skills on both sides of the ball today winning the ball back five times, dribbling and crossing the ball in Portland territory multiple times and amassing a passing accuracy of 87.5 percent, the third highest of all Red Stars players 
  • Cari Roccaro commanded the Red Stars midfield today tallying eight recoveries, 37 completed passes with 94.9 percent accuracy and 100 percent passing accuracy in the final third
