Red Stars Drop Challenge Cup Match to Racing Louisville FC, 2-0

The Chicago Red Stars fell to Racing Louisville FC tonight by a score of 2-0 in UKG Challenge Cup play. The team returns home to Chicago next week to take on the Kansas City Current in the clubs’ second matchup in the Challenge Cup.  

 

KEY MOMENTS: 

 

10’ Racing Louisville go on a run up the right flank and get a cross to the back post that finds one of their attackers and their strike finds the back of the net, 1-0 Louisville 

 

19’ Louisville pass their way through the Red Stars defense, but the Red Stars block a shot that unfortunately lands at the feet of a Racing forward and they double their lead, 2-0 Louisville 

 

27′ Another dangerous look for Racing Louisville in front of Chicago’s penalty area, but Tatumn Milazzo tracks back to block their shot and end the danger 

 

45+3’ Chicago’s Milazzo connects with Ella Stevens who uses a chest pass to get the ball to a charging Bianca St-Georges who in turn charges straight at goal, but her shot goes wide of the post, 2-0 Louisville 

 

68’ Chicago’s Julia Bianchi finds Penelope Hocking on a run through Louisville’s defense, the rookie carries it into their penalty area, but her left-footed shot gets scooped up by the goalkeeper 

 

72’ Louisville respond with a cross into Chicago’s area that finds one of their attackers near the back post and their header gets the ball to a wide-open Racing forward, but their shot is stopped by the quick reflexes of Chicago’s Emily Boyd, 2-0 Louisville

  • Star of the match for Chicago was Casey Krueger who contributed on both sides of the pitch, ranking in the top five among Red Stars players in Chances created (3), completed passes in the final third (7), crosses attempted (4) and recoveries (7).
  • After subbing into the match in the second half, Penelope Hocking made her mark ranking in the top five among Red Stars players in shots (2) and tackles won (3)
