The Chicago Red Stars today agreed to terms with midfielder Addie McCain on a two-year contract with a one-year option. The Red Stars acquired McCain’s playing rights through the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) waiver wire.
“Addie is a young and talented player. She has the ability to both score and create goals. We’re looking forward to her joining our team,” said Head Coach Chris Petrucelli.
In 2022, McCain played in 10 matches for the Current during the 2022 NWSL regular season, starting in three. The midfielder played in seven matches during the 2022 Challenge Cup and scored her first professional goal against Racing Louisville.
“I am very excited about my opportunity to join the Red Stars. I have the utmost respect for Coach Petrucelli and the coaching staff,” said McCain. “I know the Red Stars organization are doing great things to build a world class organization in the city of Chicago. I am looking forward to this next phase in my career and playing alongside some of the best players in the league.”
McCain was drafted as the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL draft out of Texas A&M University. The former Aggie’s decorated college career includes being named the 2020 SEC Midfielder of the Year, 2020 All-SEC First Team and an SEC Championship in 2017 when she was also named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
