Chicago Red Stars defender and Naperville native, Casey Krueger, was named to the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) August Best XI, the league announced today.
In August, Krueger played a full 90 minutes in all three of Chicago’s matches. As Krueger has done all season, the defender patrolled the Red Stars’ left flank, making her presence felt on both the defensive and offensive sides of the pitch. Most notably, in the match against the Houston Dash Saturday, August 5 in Chicago, Krueger assisted on all three of the team’s goals; an achievement no Red Star has ever accomplished in any competition.
Krueger is no stranger to receiving league honors. Earlier this month, the defender was named the NWSL’s Player of the Week. In 2016, Krueger received her first recognition when she was named to the NWSL’s Best XI second team and followed that accomplishment with four Best XI of the month recognitions in 2017, ending the year on the league’s Best XI first team. In 2019, Krueger received a second Best XI first team recognition after being named to the Best XI of the month six-straight times that season.
The NWSL Best XI of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent. The full Best XI for August is below:
