The Chicago Red Stars have acquired midfielder Cari Roccaro from Angel City FC in exchange for $65,000 in allocation money.
“Cari is a fantastic addition for us. She’s a proven winner in this league,” said Red Stars Head Coach, Chris Petrucelli. “She’ll bring championship experience to our young group. She’s a force physically while being talented technically. We’re looking forward to working with her.”
Last season with Angel City, Roccaro played in 21 matches, started in 20, recorded four goals with one assist and completed 81 percent of her passes. Roccaro’s four goals made her the second highest goal scorer for Angel City last season.
When Angel City took on OL Reign on July 30, 2022, Roccaro notched her first goal in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) after a shot from one of her teammates rebounded to the midfielder who was able to put it away. The following match, a ball played from a corner kick for Angel City landed at the feet of Roccaro who was able to put it in the back of the net with a left-footed strike.
Prior to joining Angel City, the New York native played for the North Carolina Courage from 2018 to 2021 and was a part of the 2018 and 2019 Courage teams that won back-to-back NWSL Championships.
As a member of the Courage, Roccaro played 38 matches, started in 23 and recorded one assist.
Roccaro was drafted in the first round of the 2016 NWSL draft by the Houston Dash out of Notre Dame University. Roccaro played and started in 75 games while at Notre Dame, earning the title of team captain twice. Internationally, Roccaro has been a part of the U.S. under-20 team that won the U-20 World Cup in 2012 and served as captain for the team in 2014.
