A New Era with the Stars

A diverse investor group led by Laura Ricketts and prominent Chicago women business and civic leaders officially purchased the Red Stars in September 2023. Together, Ricketts and the co-investors are one of the most diverse ownership groups in professional sports. In the months after the purchase, Karen Leetzow, former Chief Legal Officer of US Soccer joined as the President of the Red Stars. A new era begins.

“The Chicago Red Stars and the NWSL will continue to work for the betterment of women in soccer, not solely in the USA but also on the world stage.”
- Lorne Donaldson, Red Stars Head Coach
“Women’s soccer wouldn’t be where it is today without the work of incredibly influential and passionate players past and present. I am honored to be a part of an organization with an ownership group that is dignified in leading us in this new era.”
- Ava Cook, Red Stars Forward
“It’s incredibly exciting to see the progress the NWSL has made over the years. Women’s soccer players are able to have opportunities and follow their dreams in ways they never were able to before, and it’s only going to get better for future generations. The Red Stars organization is extremely fortunate to be owned and led by individuals that are going to continue to push the standard for what it means to be a professional women’s soccer player in this league, and I am looking forward to watching them break barriers and begin the new Red Stars era.”
- Cari Roccaro, Red Stars Midfielder
“Building a championship culture begins with treating our players with the respect they deserve as women and athletes.”
- Laura Rickketts, Red Stars Owner
