British Football Club
A woman known to history only as Nettie Honeyball (a pseudonym), alongside 30 other young women, founded the first known women’s professional soccer club known as the British Ladies Football Club. Their games frequently attracted thousands of spectators. However, they drew much criticism for their audacity to try to play a “man’s game” and it soon became unsafe for them to continue playing.
