Chicago, IL (June 12, 2014) – Six Red Stars players have been selected to play for their respective national teams in the next two weeks. Forward Christen Press, midfielder Shannon Boxx and defender Julie Johnston will join the U.S. Women’s National team, goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc and midfielder Adriana Leon will compete for Canada’s Women’s National Team, and defender and Football Ferns captain Abby Erceg will join New Zealand.
Press, Johnston, and the U.S Women’s National Team will face France on June 14 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, and June 19 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut. France is currently ranked fourth in the world. Both matches are slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted on ussoccer.com.
Boxx returns to the U.S. Women’s National Team training camp for the first time since having a baby daughter in late February. She will not be playing in the matches against France, but will instead continue to improve her fitness in preparation for her first NWSL games with the Red Stars.
Leblanc and Leon will face Germany with Canada’s Women’s National Team in a friendly match on Wednesday, June 18 at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada. Erceg and the 20th ranked Football Ferns will host sixth ranked Brazil in New Zealand for two matches. The first will take place June 17 at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland with kick-off slated for 7 p.m. local time / 2 a.m. CT. The second match of the series is scheduled for June 19at Owen Delany Park in Taupo with kick-off starting at 6:30 p.m. local time / 1:30 a.m. CT.
