Sam Kerr Nominated For Two ESPY Awards

CHICAGO – Chicago Red Stars forward Sam Kerr is nominated for “Best International Women’s Soccer Player” and “Best NWSL” player at this year’s ESPYs Awards.

Kerr, who won last year’s “Best International Women’s Soccer Player” Award last year, has continued to put up historic numbers. Kerr is currently tied for the Golden Boot at this year’s FIFA World Cup and became the first player born outside of the United States to score four goals in a single FIFA Women’s World Cup game.

She also made history domestically both in the U.S. and her native Australia. With 16 goals in 19 games, she won the National Women’s Soccer League Golden Boot for the second consecutive year and is the league’s all-time leading goalscorer at only 25 years of age.

Kerr was named the Westfield W-League’s first-ever Marquee Signing and rewarded Perth Glory by leading them to the Grand Final. She scored 13 goals in 11 games and won the Golden Boot for the second-straight season in that league as well. A hat trick against Western Sydney Wanderers made her the W-League’s all-time leading scorer, meaning she holds that honor in two separate leagues.

Fan vote decides the winner of the ESPY Awards, which will take place on July 10. Fans can vote for Kerr by clicking here.
