Rosie White preparing for World Cup with New Zealand

The midfielder turns focus to June’s tournament

CHICAGO — Having participated in two World Cups and the 2016 Summer Olympics, Rosie White understands the unique opportunity that presents itself representing your country on a global stage.

Now having qualified for this year’s World Cup, White will continue to focus on getting New Zealand as far in the tournament as possible, spending her time training until it kicks off in June, meaning she won’t return to the Red Stars before the World Cup.

“Thank you so much Chicago for everything, especially to the great fans and my amazing teammates,” White said. “It’s time for me to open a new chapter in my career and redirect my focus for the World Cup and Olympics in what will be an exciting time for Team New Zealand. I am sad to say I won’t be returning to the Red Stars, as my main focus will be for my country. I wish my teammates all the best of luck.”

White played in 12 games for the Chicago Red Stars in 2018, scoring a goal against Sky Blue FC on September 8.

“We know how much this World Cup means to Rosie and all of New Zealand,” said owner Arnim Whisler. “Her training over in New Zealand during the lead-up time before the World Cup and preparing for the biggest stage is in her best interest. We wish her the best of luck in the World Cup and appreciate everything Rosie did for this club in 2018.”

The team and player will evaluate their options once the tournament is complete. The Chicago Red Stars wish Rosie the best of luck in her international career and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
