Rookie Jen Hoy Named NWSL Player of the Week!

CHICAGO – Chicago Red Stars forward Jen Hoy was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 19 of the 2013 NWSL season.

Hoy, 22, scored two goals to lead the Red Stars to a comeback 2-1 victory over FC Kansas City on Aug. 18 at Verizon Wireless Field in Overland Park, Kan. that prevented the Blues from securing the NWSL Shield and home-field advantage throughout the NWSL Playoffs.

The Sellersville, Penn. native played all played all 90 minutes in her fourth start of the season as she scored the game-tying goal in the 45th minute off an assist from Inka Grings before netting the game-winning goal in second-half stoppage time when she lashed a one-time shot past FCKC goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart.

Hoy finished her rookie campaign with three goals and an assist in just 471 minutes this season. Her three goals came from just five shots on goal. She was selected in the fourth round of the 2013 NWSL College Draft by the Red Stars, but did not join the team officially until early June when she completed her studies at Princeton.

She is the second Red Stars player to be named NWSL Player of the Week after midfielder Lori Chalupny claimed the award for Week 10.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
