Chicago, Il. – The Chicago Red Stars have taken to the road for a Wednesday night match-up with Sky Blue FC to take place at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. at 7 p.m. ET.
The Red Stars (1-0-2, 3 pts) are looking to find their season opener form when they defeated WNY Flash 1-0 at home on April 19 on the back of a Julie Johnston goal. Since then the team has dropped a home and away match by matching scores of 0-1, first to Washington Spirit on April 26 then at Kansas City last Wednesday, April 30.
The Red Stars will be missing several key figures including Johnston, who was called into the U.S. Women’s National Team friendly against Canada to take place May 8 in Winnipeg, Canada. Veteran goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc and midfielder Adriana Leon have also traveled to Winnipeg to suit up for the Canadians.
Two Red Stars forwards that have yet to join the club were also called up, including Christen Press for the U.S. and Melissa Tancredi for Canada, respectably. Press is currently with Swedish-side Tyreso FF and Tancredi is completing chiropractic school.
Sky Blue FC has two games in hand on the Red Stars and currently hold a record of 1-2-2 for 5 points. Their most recent match was a 1-0 win against the Boston Breakers on Saturday. They will also be without several players due to national team call-ups including Americans Kelley O’Hara, Jill Loyden, and Christie Rampone, as well as Canadians Jonelle Foligno and Sophie Schmidt.
The match will be streamed live via the NWSL’s official YouTube channel. Fans can also follow the Red Stars official gameday Twitter account for live in-game updates: @redstarslive and join in the conversation using hashtag #SBFCvCRS.
