Red Stars Take Hot Streak to Houston

Chicago – The Red Stars have taken to the road again as they look to continue their winning ways and extend their current three-game win streak when they visit the Houston Dash Friday for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff.

The third-place Red Stars (4-2-1, 13pts) most recently earned two wins on the road in Boston. Forward Jen Hoy, midfielder Lori Chalupny, and defender Michelle Wenino each scored in both games against the Breakers, while midfielder Zakiya Bywaters added a tally to the Sunday match-up. The Houston Dash (1-5-1, 4pts) have just come off a come-from-behind 2-2 tie against FC Kansas City. Dash forward Tiffany McCarty scored the game-tying goal in the second half to steal a point from KC.

Red Stars captain Lori Chalupny tallied her first two goals of the season during the recent series in Boston and has continued her ironwoman status, along with fellow midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo, as the only two Red Stars to play in every minute this season. Veteran goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc continues to lead a strong Chicago defense that has given up only five goals in seven games, and never more than one goal per match. Chicago forward Jen Hoy has scored a goal in each of the Red Stars last three games and currently leads the club in goals scored.

Canadian international forward Melissa Tancredi, who made her NWSL debut against Houston in Chicago on May 11, has rejoined the team for this trip as she continues to complete her chiropractic studies.

New Zealand international defender Abby Erceg has also traveled with the team, and may be rostered for Friday’s match pending receipt of her International Transfer Certificate.

The Houston Dash feature a pair of former Red Stars players in forward Ella Masar and goalkeeper Erin McLeod. The Dash also include recently acquired Canadian international Kaylyn Kyle as well as Mexican international Teresa Noyola.

The two teams met earlier this month for the first time on May 11th in Chicago that ended in a 1-0 Red Stars victory, but not before a 3-hour inclement weather delay. Hoy was the lone goal-scorer in the match, when she received a long ball and had a short chip over goalkeeper Bianca Henninger, who was filling in for the injured McLeod.

Red Stars vs. Houston Dash kicks off Friday at 7:00 pm CT at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, and will be streamed live for free. Fans can also follow the Red Stars official gameday Twitter account for live in-game updates: @redstarslive.
