Keys to the Game: Houston Dash vs Chicago Red Stars

For the first time this season, the Chicago Red Stars will play against the Houston Dash on Sunday, May 19th at 5 pm C.T. The hosts have been one of the best teams early this season, heading into this game at the top of the NWSL standings. In a battle between two of the top three teams in the NWSL, here are the keys to the game.

Golden Connection: The connection between Yuki Nagasato and Sam Kerr is no longer a secret to the NWSL. However, this season the duo has continued to torment defenses in the league. Kerr’s brace propelled her to first place in this year’s scoring race, while Nagasato’s assist of Kerr’s goal on Sunday means she leads the league in assists. Entering Sunday’s game, the international connection is golden, leading the league in goals and assists.

Shots on Shots: Only North Carolina has taken more shots than the Houston Dash this season, who sit at 58 shots through five games. Both teams average nearly 10 shots per game, meaning attempts on goal could be plentiful this Sunday.

Off to the Races: Sunday’s matchup features two of the best three records in the NWSL. Houston enters this game at the top of the table with 10 points. Chicago currently sits in 3rd with eight points. Two of the hottest teams in the league are facing off on Sunday, with points and crucial momentum on the line as the season enters the summer months.
