Four Red Stars Ready For U.S. Women’s National Team Opening Match

U.S. WNT open group play against Thailand

CHICAGO – The United States Women’s National Team begin their World Cup campaign against Thailand on Tuesday, June 11 (2 p.m. CT; FOX). The Chicago Red Stars are represented well in the 23-player roster with goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, defender Tierna Davidson, and midfielders Julie Ertz and Morgan Brian. Naeher, Ertz, and Brian were all in the title-winning 2015 squad while Davidson, age 20, will be participating in her first World Cup as the youngest player on the team.

The U.S. Women’s National Team and Thailand have only played each other once back in 2016. Julie Ertz started for the Americans who would go on to win 9-0. The 2019 World Cup will be Thailand’s second-ever appearance, their first being in 2015. The Americans, on the other hand, are expected to challenge again for the title and will be eager to start on the right foot in their opening match.

The United State’s group stage schedule is:

June 11 vs Thailand at 2 p.m. C.T.

June 16 vs Chile at 11 a.m. C.T.

June 20 vs Sweden at 2 p.m. C.T.
