CPS RECEIVES SIZABLE DONATION TO FUND ELEMENTARY FEMALE SOCCER TEAMS
U.S. Women’s National Team star and Chicago Red Stars captain Christen Press to join teams for donation on Sat., June 3

CHICAGO – The national charitable organization, Good Sports, which also operates in Chicago, has announced a sizeable donation to Chicago Public Schools’ athletic programs.

U.S. Women’s National Team star Christen Press will join Good Sports at the donation celebration on Saturday, June 3rd from 9:30 am – 10:45 am CT at Hanson Stadium (5501 W. Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60639).

With a retail value of an excess of $43,000, the donation will provide much needed equipment for the CPS SCORE! initiative. CPS SCORE! stands for Sports Can Open Roads to Excellence and is CPS’ new district-wide, no cuts elementary school sports program.  CPS SCORE! is a public-private partnership created in an effort to increase academic performance, decrease violence, strengthen communities, and to give all students an equal opportunity to excel in sports.

The grant is a critical part of the success of the new spring sport program and will aid the experiences of young students, 86% who are low income.

The donation was specific to the female soccer teams and will include equipment bags, shin guards, soccer balls and four pairs of full size (age appropriate) soccer goals.

Good Sports provides support to sports and fitness programs benefiting children in need. The organization gives all kids the lifelong benefits of sport and physical activity by providing new equipment, apparel and footwear to those most in need.

The girls’ soccer program will play games on Saturday’s at nine Chicago Public School and Chicago Park District locations on April 22 and 29, May 6, 13 and 20 and June 3. Games will be played from 9AM-2PM.

WHY: With budget cuts increasing among physical education programs and sports teams across the Chicagoland area, Good Sports donated over $500,000 worth of new                        equipment to 108 organizations in Chicago in 2016. The donations impacted over 77,000 children city-wide and generated an average increase of 61 minutes played per              week amongst Chicago youth. In 2017, Good Sports will track toward a cumulative impact of 45,000 children, equating to over $700,000 in new sports equipment                          donations across Chicago.
