CHICAGO – The Red Stars will look to regain momentum on the road when they travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Spirit. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, August, 26, at Maureen Hendricks Field. Watch live on the go90 app or NWSLsoccer.com.

Chicago is coming off its worst home appearance in club history, creating a three-game losing streak at Toyota Park. The most recent being a 1-3 defeat against Midwestern rival, FC Kansas City. The first half found Chicago down 2-0 after two goals in six minutes by Sydney Leroux and Katie Bowen.

The scoreline was down to just one goal after Julie Ertz scored her third goal of the season, her second against Kansas City this year. However, it was Kansas City that would score the final goal when midfielder Maegan Kelly found the back of the net to secure the win.

Meanwhile, Washington Spirit dropped back down to the bottom of the leaderboard with only 16 points, being one of two teams under 20 points. The Spirit fell to league leaders North Carolina in a 2-0 battle on the road. Courage rookie Ashley Hatch notched the first goal, while an unfortunate own goal by Spirit defender Kassey Kallman sealed the Courage victory.

Teams will look a bit different on the field, as this past week, former Spirit midfielder Kristie Mewis was traded to Chicago for a conditional first round pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft. With the addition of Mewis, the Red Stars waived rookie Morgan Proffitt, who was then picked up by the Spirit through waivers.

In recent years, Washington has had the upper edge on Chicago, creating a 7-3-2 record against the Red Stars. The Spirit have managed to score 14 goals on Chicago, compared to the Red Stars 11.

The last time the two teams met, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, as Christen Press equalized late in the game off a penalty kick after Francisca Ordega gave Washington the lead before halftime.

Chicago controls their own destiny for clinching a coveted playoff spot and will look for three points to continue its third-place run. Orlando Pride is currently tied with Chicago at 29 points, with Seattle Reign FC and Sky Blue FC closing in with 27 and 26, respectively.

After their trip to Washington, Chicago will return home for their last regular season home match at Toyota Park when they take on North Carolina Courage on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. CT. Tickets are available here.
