Chicago Draws with Washington Spirit

McCaskill’s second half goal leads Red Stars to earn a point 

 CHICAGO – Savannah McCaskill scored in the 72nd minute as the Chicago Red Stars played to a 1-1 draw against the Washington Spirit on Saturday, September 26th. 

 

KEY MOMENTS 

25’ Vanessa DiBernardo’s cross just misses Sarah Luebbert’s back-post header attempt. 

31’ Kealia Watt’s right-footed shot attempt hits off the far post. 

63’ Savannah McCaskill curls a shot on goal but is knocked away by a diving Aubrey Bledsoe. 

72’ Luebbert’s low cross finds McCaskill who taps the ball in the back of the net for the game’s first goal.

GAME NOTES 

  • For the second straight game, Sarah Luebbert earned an assist with her contribution to Savannah McCaskill’s go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute. In all three games of the Fall Series so far for Chicago, all of which Luebbert has started, she has contributed to at least one goal. She scored in her first professional start against Washington on Sept. 12th and assisted one of Kealia Watt’s goals in their 4-1 victory over Sky Blue FC on Sept. 20th. 
  • Savannah McCaskill led the Red Stars’ attack, scoring in the 72nd minute. McCaskill would finish the game with two shots on target with a 70.6% passing accuracy, and would also contribute defensively with two tackles and a block while also winning two fouls. 
  • Zoe Morse and Sarah Gorden provided defensive stability for the Red Stars. Morse would finish tied for the team lead in tackles with three, while also leading the team with four clearances and three blocks. Gorden would finish Saturday’s contest by winning possession back nine times for a team-high, also contributing an interception to go along with three clearances and two blocks. 
  • In two home games at the Fall Series, the Red Stars earned at least a point in both games. Dating back to last year, the Red Stars have either won or drew even in their last six games played at SeatGeek Stadium.

The Chicago Red Stars will travel to play Sky Blue FC on Saturday, October 10th. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 am CT on CBS All-Access.
