Casey Short Shines in U.S. Women’s National Team Debut

Rookie defender plays entire 90 minutes

CHICAGO – Three Red Stars made an impression with the U.S. Women’s National Team in the 4-0 victory against Switzerland on Wednesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

A first time call up to the WNT, Casey Short started in her international debut with the USA. Just as she did in her first season with Chicago, Short created problems for the opponent’s backline, while still showcasing her strong defensive skills.

Meanwhile, Christen Press, back to her number 23, showed just how talented her skills are and why she is a mainstay on the USWNT roster. Entering the match to start the second half, the Red Stars captain finished a close-range shot for her 36th international goal in her 77th cap. She also tallied her third assist on the year.

Alyssa Naeher, competing for the starting goalkeeper position, earned her sixth shutout of her career in just nine caps.

Red Stars defender Arin Gilliland and midfielder Danielle Colaprico are in camp with Short, Press and Naeher, as the two search for their first international cap, but were not made available against Switzerland.

The U.S. Women’s National Team returns to action on Sunday, October 23 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The match will air live on Fox Sports 1 with a full game preview beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
