SERIES HISTORY: The match between Chicago and Seattle marks the first time the two teams will face off in 2017. In 2016, Jen Hoy scored a vital brace on the road, which led to the first win for Chicago in Seattle during NWSL play. The last match between the two clubs saw Chicago drop two goals in the first ten minutes to Seattle, but Sofia Huerta and Christen Press would each find the back of the net to earn the tie at Toyota Park. Despite an overall record of 4-3-4, the Red Stars have been more dominant as of late, with the last loss to the Reign dating back to the 2014 season.

SCOUTING SEATTLE: The Reign come into Chicago after beating the Dash, which marked just their second road win in the last 11 matches. Seattle is led by Nahomi Kawasumi, who is first in the league with assists (5), while Megan Rapinoe has tallied four goals. Overall, the Seattle Reign leads the NWSL in goals (17) and assists (11), in large part due to big wins over the Dash (5-1) and the Spirit (6-2).

2017 ROSTER: Chicago announced the signing of Yuki Nagasato, a Japan international who will join the Red Stars as soon as cleared by the league and medical staff. The team brought in three new players to begin the 2017 NWSL season with draft picks Lauren Kaskie and Morgan Proffitt, plus Summer Green who was acquired from Seattle. The roster returns a solid core with four U.S. Women’s National Team players in Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher, Christen Press, and Casey Short, plus NWSL All-League members Sofia Huerta, Arin Gilliland and Danielle Colaprico. The 17 returning players from the 2016 season accumulated 184 starts for Chicago.

LEADING THE NWSL: Red Stars midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo is tied for the lead in assists (16) for all active players in NWSL. The previous two seasons, DiBernardo has finished second overall in the league in assists.

NEXT MATCH: Chicago will host the Washington Spirit on June 17 at 3 p.m. CT as the two clubs meet for this first time in 2017. The match marks the Red Stars “Pride Day.” Tickets are available here.
