Colaprico, Huerta and Naughton to play in Australia

CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars announced today that Danielle Colaprico, Sofia Huerta and Katie Naughton will be heading to Australia on loan to play for Adelaide United in the W-League during the NWSL offseason.

As the 2015 Rookie of the Year, Colaprico continued to succeed in Chicago, being named to the Second XI Team for the second consecutive year. The recent call-up to the U.S. Women’s National Team camp in October is eager to continue playing during the offseason of NWSL.

“I think heading over to Australia to play with Adelaide will be an excellent opportunity to keep playing at a high level in the offseason and to be in an environment where I’m not as comfortable,” said Colaprico. “All of this will help me to continue to grow as a player and I am excited about the chance to do so.”

Joining Colaprico will be Huerta, a fellow 2015 NWSL College Draft and Second XI selection. An immediate impact for Chicago, Huerta has appeared in 41 matches for the Red Stars, while logging close to 3,100 minutes of action. Huerta has emerged as a top offensive threat in the league, combining for 13 goals and 5 assists in just two seasons.

Naughton, the first pick by Chicago in the 2016 NWSL College Draft, became an integral part of the Red Stars backline in her first season and will look to continue her growth with Adelaide during the NWSL offseason. The rookie stepped up big in Chicago, playing 16 matches for 860 minutes, primarily as a central defender.

“Having the opportunity to go train and play overseas for Adelaide is something that I am very excited about and something that I have always aspired to achieve,” said Naughton. “I am confident that through this experience I will continue to grow as a player and person because playing in an unfamiliar setting is going to allow me to learn more about myself on and off the field.”

Adelaide United kicks off the W-League season on November 5. Any information for Adelaide United Women, including their schedule, can be found here.

All three will return to Chicago for the 2017 NWSL season.
