CHICAGO – Despite a fantastic volley from Danielle Colaprico in the 82nd minute, the Chicago Red Stars couldn’t find an equalizer against Sky Blue FC. Raquel Rodriguez and Jennifer Hoy provided the goals for Sky Blue who would hang on to win the match 2-1.

3’ Paige Monaghan finds herself with the ball on the right edge of the Red Stars penalty area and fires in a shot near post but it goes wide of Emily Boyd’s net.

7’ Vanessa DiBernardo wins the ball in the midfield and slots in a pass to a sprinting Yuki Nagasato who shoots from distance and just drags it wide of goal.

15’ Sam Kerr and Nagasato combine down the right side of Sky Blue’s half and when Kerr sprints into the box Nagasato finds her with a cross but it’s deflected out for a corner kick.

19’ Savannah McCaskill takes on her defender from the wide area and charges into the box, creating enough space to take a shot but it goes high and wide

22’ Sky Blue Goal: Raquel Rodrigeuz receives the ball in stride from Paige Monaghan and takes a touch before sliding in past Boyd’s far post to open the scoring.

26’ DiBernardo, McCaskill and Kerr all combine nicely above the Sky Blue penalty area before DiBernardo takes a shot at the top of the box which goes over the bar.

32’ Nagasato cuts infield from a wide position and passes it to Kerr at the top of the penalty area who takes a touch and leaves it for DiBernardo who shoots it just over the bar again.

45’ Short darts up the flank and crosses the ball towards Kerr and McCaskill but it goes just over Kerr’s head and past McCaskill and rolls out for a goal kick.

50’ Second half substitution Katie Johnson makes a couple of nifty moves to shuffle into Sky Blue’s penalty area and her shot is deflected out for a corner.

53’ DiBernardo whips in a perfect cross to Kerr who heads it far post past Sherdian but the line-judge rules it offside and the goal doesn’t stand.

57’ The ball bounces off a Sky Blue defender in the box and lands right in front of Kerr whose standing a foot in front of Sky Blue goalkeeper, Kailen Sherdian. Kerr shoots point blank towards goal but Sherdian makes a fantastic save to deny Kerr the tying goal.

65’ Johnson dribbles directly at the Sky Blue defense and slides in a pass to Michele Vasconcelos whose first-time shot is saved by Sheridan

72’ Maria Sanchez dribbles into acres of space down the right side of the Sky Blue penalty area and launches in a cross toward Johnson but it’s defended well it goes out for a goal kick.

74’ Sherdian comes off her line and blocks Nagasato’s shot after the Red Stars forward slipped in behind. The rebound ricochets to Sanchez while the goalkeeper is still off her line but Sherdian still manages to block Sanchez’s shot to keep Chicago out of goal

80’ Sky Blue Goal: Jennifer Hoy runs behind the Red Star back line and sprints toward the Red Star goal. Boyd steps up and blocks Hoy’s initial shot but Hoy follows her own rebound and slots it home to put Sky Blue up 2-0

82’ Red Stars Goal: A Sky Blue defender attempts to clear the ball in their own penalty box and it goes straight at Danielle Colaprico. The Chicago midfielder takes a touch and then hits it cleanly on the volley past Sherdian to pull one back for the Red Stars.

90+ Deep into extra time Katie Johnson is fouled at the top of Sky Blue’s penalty box. Sanchez takes the free-kick but it goes intoSky Blue’s wall.
