CHICAGO, Ill. (December 12, 2012) – The Chicago Red Stars have announced today that Head Coach Rory Dames will remain with the team as part of the new women’s professional league of 2013.  Coach Dames began with the Red Stars in 2011, reaching the WPSL Finals and losing only by the narrowest of margins in overtime. This past season brought more success with Dames at the helm including a spot in the WPSL Elite Finals, with the Red Stars holding onto a lead until the 95th minute, before falling in PKs. Under an intense and competitive schedule, the Red Stars were the US National Cup Champions in 2012.

Dames, a Chicagoland native, has made his mark on the national youth soccer scene as Director of Coaching for Eclipse Select since 1996. In that time the club has grown to over 70 teams and has won numerous national championships and been ranked consistently as one of the top clubs in the nation for female youth players. Dames is on the board of the Elite Clubs National League, which features the top female youth clubs in the country. Dames also serves as the ID2 National Girls Director.  During his time with Eclipse and Red Stars, Rory has coached numerous professional women’s players including Lori Chalupny, Leslie Osborne, Jen Buczkowski, Elise Weber, Amanda Cinalli, Ella Masar, and collegiate stars including Rachel Quon (Stanford) and Vanessa DiBernardo (Illinois).  More than two-dozen players who have come through Eclipse have ended up on the USWNT player pools and rosters.

Joining the team as First Assistant Coach is Stephanie Foster (née Erickson). Foster is a graduate of Northwestern University, where she held the all-time record in goals and points. She returned to her alma-mater as Head Coach from 2006-2011. Prior to that she served as an assistant and co-head coach with nationally ranked Stanford for 4 seasons, and head coach at Harvard in 2005. Foster holds a USSF “B” License.

Christian Lavers will serve as the team’s Second Assistant Coach. He is currently Director of Coaching for FC Wisconsin Eclipse, but brings an incredibly diverse background to the role. He is also a corporate attorney by trade, working with the Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek firm. He is President of the Elite Clubs National League and Executive Vice President of US Club Soccer. He holds a USSF “A” license.

Trae Manny will return as the team’s Goalkeeper Coach, after serving in this role during the 2012 season. Manny competed collegiately at Louisville, then went on to work as an assistant coach for the women’s team at Stephen F. Austin State University for two years, followed by two years at the University of Oklahoma. He returned to his native Illinois this year to serve as the Head of Senior Goalkeeping for Eclipse Select Soccer Club. He holds an NSCAA Goalkeeping II Diploma as well as a NSCAA Regional Diploma.

The Chicago Red Stars were selected as one of 8 teams to compete in a new women’s professional soccer league formed by the US Soccer Federation, beginning play in Spring 2013. The other teams include Boston Breakers, Washington (DC) Spirit, FC Kansas City, NJ, Portland, Seattle, and Western NY Flash. The Red Stars were league finalists in WPSL in 2011 and in WPSL Elite in 2012, and National Cup Champions in 2012.
