Johnston and Press have scored four times against Colombia in 2016
CHICAGO – The U.S. Women’s National Team faces off against Colombia in the final game of Group G match play. The match-up will mark the third meeting between the two countries in 2016 with the United States outscoring Colombia, 10-0.
Red Stars Julie Johnston and Christen Press had huge success in those matches with Johnston netting two goals and earning one assist while Press scored a goal in both games. Alyssa Naeher tallied her fourth shutout in her fourth career start during the game on April 10, 2016.
With their first two matches being played in Belo Horizonte, the United States travelled to Manaus for their final match of group play.
Overall, Colombia has yet to be any offensive threat, being shutout by both France and New Zealand in their first two Olympic games and being outscored 5-0. The United States has never lost or conceded a goal to Colombia and will look to continue down that path behind the play of Seattle Reign goalkeeper, Hope Solo.
Julie Johnston did not compete in the match against France due to groin soreness and could be rested again before the knockout stages as the United States has already ensured a spot in the quarterfinals. With a win or a tie against Colombia, the USWNT will clinch the top spot in Group G and a quarterfinal game against the third place team from Group E or F.
