The Brazilians struck first through Marta and then again through former Red Stars player Cristiane to take an early 2-0 lead. On the brink of halftime, Caitlin Foord struck one in to have the Matildas down by one with 45 minutes left to play.

In the 58th minute, Australian midfielder Chloe Logarzo fired a low strike into the box from 30-yards out.. Kerr’s run into the box occupied the Brazilian keeper who watched the well-struck ball cross the line to level the game at two apiece. Eight minutes later, a ball was looped into the box towards Kerr making a run in behind. Kerr’s presence dragged two defenders toward her and Brazilian center back Monica headed the ball into her own goal to give Australia the lead.

The win gives Kerr and her Australian teammates a fighting chance to not only advance but win, with what is turning out to be a chaotic Group C. They’ll play their final group match against Jamaica on June 18th at 2 p.m. C.T.
